About
Thomas an artist living and working in the Chicago area in the USA. . He is a (re)emerging artist following a long hiatus brought about by vision loss. Affected by a neurological condition called LHON, Thomas is legally blind, but continues to create visual art. His work is an indirect reflection of what is best visible to him in his use of bold lines work, expressive and gestural mark-making, intense color, and high contrast. While primarily abstract and expressive, his current work takes cues from the drama of metabolic processes (e.g. energy creation, reproduction, and death), a parade of fabricated characters, and hallucinatory landscapes. The tension inherent between the urge to image and his diminished perception inform the process and as a results, the artist and his audience don't always see the same thing. Seen as a positive, this outcome creates a conversation about meaning that finds its way back into subsequent work.
He has a BFA from Auburn University and a Master’s in Design from Institute of Design at Illinois Institute of Technology.
